FAQs for sources

2. Will you include a link to my blog?

It depends. Websites are only featured if they are beneficial to my clients' readers. Links that provide new and exciting information, backup statistics, or offer relevant merchandise are usually shoo-ins.

3. Can I read the article before it's published?

Typically, it's considered unethical to allow a source to view an article before it's published. However, if you're article is fact-heavy or highly sensitive, you may be able to listen to or view the parts you are featured in  with editorial approval. However, you can't approve or modify quotes already on the record. Though, you can add or provide more information.

4. Will you pay to interview me?

I will not pay for interviews or unpublished documents: to do so would create an incentive for sources to falsify material and cast into doubt the reliability of my work.

1. When will the article that I'm featured in run?

Depending on the media outlet, the article that you're featured in might be published with a couple of weeks, months, or  even years. But as soon as it's live, I'll send you a link or PDF via email.

If you live in the Knoxville area or if the publication pays for travel, I'd be happy to arrange a face-to-face interview. Otherwise, we'll need to chat via phone, email, Skype, or Google Hangouts.

5. Can we have a face-to-face interview?

Absolutely. Just download Viber or Whatsapp to your computer, android, or smartphone, and you'll be set to gab globablly,

7. I don't live in the U.S. Can we still do an interview by phone for free?
8. I found a typo or misinformation in the article about me. What should I do?

If the article is in print, there's little that can be done. Depending on the magazine or newspaper, the managing editor might print a retraction or correction in the next issue. If the article  is live online, notify me of the error within 7 business days of it being posted, and if I have access to the article, I'll fix the issue myself. If not, I'll notify the editor—who will decide whether to fix it or leave it.

While I'd love for you to share the article that you're featured in, it's not a requirement. You'll never be denied an interview for refusing to use social media.

9. Do I have to share the article that I'm featured in?
10. Do you record your interviews?

To ensure accuracy, I prefer to record all of my interviews. But if this makes you uncomfortable, let me know in advance and we'll go with old-school pen and paper.  If there's something you'd like to share and you don't want it repeated, simply tell me. My lips are sealed. I promise.

11. What timezone are you in?
12. I have a story that I'd like you to pitch.

Great! Send me a message with your name and your story idea. You'll also get brownie points for including photos or website links. While I read all of my emails,  I can't promise that your idea will be a good fit or that it'll be accepted for publication.

I'd never judge or poke fun at you for speaking broken English. But if chatting on the phone is too nerve-racking, I'd be happy to communicate via email, Twitter, or Facebook. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable enough to share your story or information!

6. My English is poor. Can we do our interview over email?
